When the Toronto Go Club decided to start hosting beginner Go classes … Ben Mantle was instrumental in its success.
With help from him, I improved my rank from 3 kyu to 1 dan.
He is easily the most patient person I know when it comes to teaching people, especially for those just starting out like me.
One teacher can’t look at every game. So I built a school where you never study alone.
For players from beginner to 3 dan (strong amateur). No question is too basic.
Three Saturdays a month at 12:30 pm Eastern, I teach a live class. Ask questions as we go. Every class is recorded, so you can watch later. Each week there’s homework, with an answer video.
A better understanding of direction of play, and studying shape has helped a ton.
Each month you play games against a small group of members near your strength, on OGS, the free Go website, with time to think. You set each game’s time with your opponent, so any time zone works.
Win titles, prizes and a place in the Hall of Fame.
When I started BKL in November I had only played a couple 9×9s and some 20k bots on 19×19. BKL gave me confidence to play people :)
Post a game or a position, and stronger members can reply right on the board. In the league, they leave variations in your games.
